NILGA & Hitachi Solutions partnership to support local government digital services. 

A new partnership with NILGA

The Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA) and Hitachi Solutions Europe (Hitachi Solutions) today announce a partnership to provide the local government sector in Northern Ireland with a vision and strategy for digital services.

This partnership aims to assist NILGA to benchmark their current digital position, agree a regional ambition for digital local government services and identify actions to fulfil this ambition at local and regional levels.

Commencing this month, the project will:

• Explore the role of technology in the future of local government in NI.
• Explore the role of technology in public service provision, social cohesion and in creating solutions to local problems to enable and strengthen democracy.
• Identify the vision of technology and value potential to citizens.

Implementing a comprehensive strategy that encompasses the 11 local councils could open numerous opportunities for the public sector.

The local government sector is dealing with financial pressures, increasing demand for services, rising residents’ expectations and climate change, at the same time as needing to invest in transformation initiatives. All these challenges can be supported with technology.

The Local Government Auditor’s report of December 2023 encourages local government bodies to continue to find collaborative, cost-effective solutions to common problems. As such, NILGA has sought collaborative opportunities with other organisations to invest in innovative solutions that have the potential to transform the future of local government.
