London, UK, 20th March 2025 – Hitachi Solutions Europe has reinforced its commitment to the UK government with a new strategy and leadership appointments designed to meet the evolving needs of government digital services.
As a leading Microsoft partner, Hitachi Solutions is strengthening its capabilities to help UK government departments navigate unprecedented change, drive efficiencies, and deliver high-impact, human-centric digital transformation. To support this focus, Emma Charles and Jamie Watson have been appointed as Government Industry Director and Government Commercial Director, respectively.
A Strategy Aligned to Government Priorities
Hitachi Solutions has long supported the UK public sector, and this renewed focus ensures it can proactively address government challenges and priorities. The strategy is built on three core pillars:
- Mission-Driven Digital Transformation – Helping government deliver sustainable, citizen-centric services by leveraging Microsoft technologies and embedding human-centric design principles at every stage.
- Efficiency and Innovation at Scale – Supporting the government’s 5% efficiency savings target with AI, automation, and modern cloud-based solutions that eliminate waste and streamline operations.
- Long-Term Partnership and Capability Building – Strengthening collaboration between the public and private sectors, ensuring government teams have the right skills, technology, and support to succeed.
At the core of this strategy is Hitachi Solutions’ ‘Human-Centric by Default’ approach, ensuring that digital transformation is designed around the needs of humans—both government employees and citizens. By integrating research, change management, training, and testing as core components of its solutions, Hitachi Solutions ensures technology adoption is intuitive, effective, and aligned to real-world government challenges.
As part of this strategy, Hitachi Solutions has established a dedicated UK Government Pod, bringing together its central and local government expertise into a cohesive function. This team ensures a seamless, end-to-end approach to transformation, helping departments deliver services that are more agile, resilient, and user-friendly.
Meeting the Growing Demands on Government Digital Services
The launch of this strategic focus comes at a pivotal time for government.
The start of 2025 has seen the rollout of major initiatives such as the Procurement Act 2023, the AI Opportunities Action Plan, AI Playbook, and the integration of the Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) into the Government Digital Service (GDS). These initiatives, preluding the ‘Digital and AI Roadmap’ to be published in summer, signify the government’s recognition of the critical importance of technology and collaboration within the private sector in delivering enhanced public services.
Hitachi Solutions is optimally positioned to support this transformation as departments and agencies respond to these calls to action. Its expertise spans the full Microsoft technology stack—including Azure, Azure Open AI, Bizz Apps, Copilot, Fabric, and Power Platform. Combined with a deep understanding of government operations, its human-centric approach prioritises effective technology adoption, equipping civil servants with the tools and training they need to drive meaningful change.
A Sustainable and Future-Ready Government
Sustainability is a key component of Hitachi Solutions’ strategy. The company is an active member of the Government Digital Sustainability Alliance (GDSA) and has played a crucial role in sustainability efforts, including its work with the Environment Agency and the Royal Mints Sustainable Precious Metals programme. By helping government organisations transition to modern cloud solutions, reduce reliance on legacy systems, and implement eco-friendly digital infrastructure, Hitachi Solutions is supporting the UK’s Net Zero ambitions.
“The UK government is at a critical juncture, balancing the need for rapid digital transformation with efficiency, security, and sustainability goals,” said Emma Charles, Government Industry Director at Hitachi Solutions UK. “Our strategy ensures we are fully aligned with these priorities, bringing together the best of Microsoft technology, deep public sector expertise, and a commitment to human-centric, mission-driven transformation.”
Jamie Watson, Government Commercial Director, added: “This is about more than technology—it’s about building the right foundations for long-term UK economic success. By focusing on mission-driven transformation and the digital enablement of government teams, we are helping to create a digital future that is more efficient, sustainable, and citizen-focused.”
With a strong track record in government and a dedicated team of experts, Hitachi Solutions is committed to being a key partner in delivering the government’s digital and AI roadmap, enabling mission-driven government objectives, taking an “iron fist against waste”, and enabling a more efficient, sustainable, and citizen-centric public service.
