Hitachi Solutions to deliver Smart Environmental Regulation Programme to DEFRA
The UK’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has chosen Hitachi Solutions Europe to deliver its Smart Environmental Regulation Programme (SERP) in a 2-year deal worth up to £50m.
SERP is designed to transform the digital and IT capabilities for regulatory activities within DEFRA and its Arm’s Length Bodies, based primarily on the Microsoft Cloud ecosystem. SERP initially combines three existing programmes: the Environment Agency’s (EA) Regulatory Services Programme and Environment Monitoring & Planning Programme, plus the Waste Tracking programme from DEFRA.
Hitachi Solutions was the incumbent supplier on the Beta version of the EA Regulatory Services Programme. The new contract will see Hitachi Solutions develop generic digital capabilities based primarily on the Microsoft Cloud ecosystem. These capabilities can be re-used across digital programmes, both to replace legacy systems and meet new requirements, including end-to-end digital services to manage permits and registrations, enforcement and modern data management with advanced analytics.
