Hitachi Solutions is the newest member of the Government Digital Sustainability Alliance (GDSA)
Hitachi Solutions is proud to be part of the Government Digital Sustainability Alliance (GDSA) where we will work with other members to identify opportunities to solve key problems and seek to develop solutions to overcome the barriers to progress within the ICT sector, and ultimately to drive positive, meaningful, and sustainable change.
Who are the GDSA?
The UK Government Digital Sustainability Alliance (GDSA) was formed in 2022 following an announcement by Chris Howes, Defra’s Chief Digital and Information Officer (CDIO) and the UK Government’s Senior Responsible Owner for Sustainable ICT, at COP 27. The alliance was created to address the need for businesses and governments to work together to reduce the environmental impact of digital technology.
The GDSA is a collaborative group made up of specialists from both current and potential digital and data suppliers to the UK Government. The group collaborate to come up with proposals for new tooling, reporting methodologies, training, frameworks, and guidance on key societal issues
In the fast-paced world of digital advancements, the intersection of technology and sustainability presents opportunities and challenges. While technology can aid sustainability efforts, it can also hinder them. Collaborative efforts between businesses and governments are crucial to ensuring that digital technologies contribute positively to achieving Greening Government Commitments, the Net Zero Strategy, and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
Delivering sustainable solutions is central to Hitachi Solutions mission. We are delighted to be able to work as part of the GDSA to collaborate with other industry partners, helping Government integrate digital strategy with sustainability goals.

What are the main objectives of the GDSA?
The main purpose of GDSA is promoting and progressing knowledge and capabilities to deliver sustainable digital data and technology across UK Government and their suppliers.
The GDSA aims to minimise the environmental impact of digital technology and at Hitachi Solutions being a part of this alliance supports our mission to contribute to society through the development of superior, original technology and products
What does a GDSA membership mean for Hitachi Solutions?
As a GDSA member, Hitachi Solutions will have the opportunity to work with other GDSA members to identify and review risks and opportunities, problem solve and deliver suggestions for amendments to government policies and practices within ICT and Digital Sustainability to ensure that we minimise waste and embrace circular economy concepts, use resources more sustainably and efficiently, adapt to climate change, seek innovation opportunities and other key responsibilities.
We are delighted that Hitachi Solutions have joined the GDSA, they bring a wealth of experience on green coding, education programmes, and sustainability in the cloud, all of which are key areas the GDSA team is looking to work on this year. We know Hitachi Solutions and our other new members will make significant contributions to help us realise a more digitally sustainable future!
