The potential of emerging technology - such as blockchain, Mixed Reality, IoT and AI – partnered with Dynamics 365 is enormous. Staying on top of these technologies and seeking out new ways to use them to drive customer value is hugely important to us.
That’s why we’re pleased to announce that Kyle Hill has been appointed our first Director of Emerging Technologies, a new role here at Hitachi Solutions.
“There are lots of new technologies that complement Dynamics 365 and play a huge part in the solutions we deliver to customers. The new role, Director of Emerging Technologies, has been created to investigate and understand these technologies, not just to commercialise these for Hitachi Solutions but to work out how we can use these technologies to provide more value for customers. There are three aspects to the new role:
The role is horizontal, so I will be working closely across industry verticals. What we do underpins several different industries, and helps us pivot based on what the technology affords. For instance, if a customer in banking said tomorrow that they wanted to do something specific around blockchain with Dynamics, my job is to make sure Hitachi Solutions can help.”
“The main focus to begin with is IoT, because it’s top of mind for a lot of organisations. There’s a huge amount of demand from the market and from customers.”
“There’s a lot of potential across industries. For instance, in the housing sector, there are great opportunities to reduce the number of repairs – e.g. monitoring boilers, lights, leaks, and issues that affect health and safety. We have seen it in retail, where there are dynamic labeling and location-based services. There’s an almost unlimited number of possibilities. The important thing is to ensure it all pings back into Dynamics 365, where we start using the data generated to add value to customers.”
“What we do differently at Hitachi Solutions is that, for us, it’s not just about getting the data and analysing it; we actually take that next step in actioning it. That is typically where Dynamics 365 comes in. Consider, for instance, when a field engineer is dispatched to fix a broken boiler – the data and analytics must always lead to value-adding action for customers. This might mean setting up IoT sensors and intelligent analytics to monitor the condition and performance of the boiler in real-time. This way we can look at the operational stats, diagnose the issue, identify the best solution, and send out the field engineer to fix the boiler before it breaks down.”
“A part of the role is to look at how we can work with other companies in the Hitachi Group. With IoT, this comes up a lot. Customers often want to build a facility with IoT sensors and all the systems, from bricks and mortar all the way up. That’s not typically something that Hitachi Solutions does, but with a little help from the Hitachi Group, absolutely it is. That is quite unique in the market place.”
“The big one outside of IoT is AI – in particular, bots and automated agents. If our main aim is to use big data in an actionable way, then AI has a significant role to play. Where possible, we want to drive these outcomes without the need for human intervention. Bots are a great example of that; automated credit scoring another.”
“For me, personally, the most exciting thing is that it’s ever-changing. Emerging technologies typically go through a 12 to 18-month incubation period, during which the technology is qualified as ‘emerging’. After that, it’s considered mainstream. For me, the constant change is appealing and part of the challenge. Also, the fact that we’re not thinking about these technologies in isolation but focusing on where they cross over with other technology and can solve the bigger pictures.”
“As a business applications MVP (Microsoft Most Valuable Professional), I get a lot of exposure to what’s new. Part of that involves me looking across business applications and across all the technology stacks, to see what opportunities there are; then communicating that to Hitachi Solutions. In this new role, it means trying to turn that insight into a commercial model to operate with. Being an MVP is all about promoting technology and empowering others in the community. For me, being able to learn about these things is great, but being able to share it with others, like our customers, is even better.”
“It’s a fantastic step for us at Hitachi Solutions - we have never had a role like this before. But we know the importance of being able to adopt these new technologies, where appropriate, so that we can add even more value to our customers.
“The technology world is developing incredibly quickly at the moment. Our customers often ask about emerging technologies, and advice isn’t generally provided or even readily available from your typical Dynamics Partner. But Hitachi Solutions has invested in making that available with this new role. It’s not just technology for technology sake; it’s about adding value to our customers.”
